Minimum Education Requirements
Each type of provider is required to meet minimum education and training standards.
Those minimum requirements are listed below.
Type B Home Providers
bulletProviders must be over the age of 18
bulletAll Type B Home Providers are required to have a high school diploma or GED
Additional Requirements for Certified Type B Home Providers
bulletComplete a Health & Safety in Family Child Care training more than 6 months before or 3 months after they are Certified
bulletBetween 6 months and 12 months of Certification:
bullet    Complete a Child Development training
bullet    Certified in First Aid
bullet    Certified in Infant, Child and Adult CPR
bullet    Certified in Prevention, Recognition and Management of Communicable Diseases
bullet    Certified in Child Abuse Recognition and Prevention
bulletAnnually, obtain a minimum of 6 hours of training in topics related to the early childhood field, working with families, nutrition, business management, community resources, etc.
ODE Licensed Center Staff Education Requirements
bulletIndividuals must be over the age of 18 and have a high school diploma or GED
bullet15 hours of in-service training annually ((until completing 45 hours) Topics must relate to Child Development, Child abuse recognition and prevention, First Aid and/or in prevention, recognition and management of Communicable Diseases.
bulletIndividuals are exempt from training if they have:
bullet      Hold an Associate or higher degree in child development or early childhood education OR
bullet      A pre-kindergarten/schoolage associate certificate issued by the State Board of Education OR
bullet      A pre-kindergarten/schoolage teaching certificate    
Type A Home Providers OR
ODJFS Licensed
Center Staff Education Requirements
bulletIndividuals must be over the age of 18 and have a high school diploma or GED
bullet15 hours of in-service training annually ((until completing 45 hours) A total of 20 hours must be in Child Development topics)
bulletIndividuals are exempt from training if they have:
bullet     They have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential OR
bullet     Montessori certificate OR
bullet     Completed 90 quarter / 60 semester hours with at least 36 quarter / 24 semester hours in child development
